Andy Lau: Doting Father or Strict Disciplinarian? 'Heavenly King' Does Not Want a 'Princess' Daughter

Hong Kong's "Heavenly King" Andy Lau does not want his daughter Hanna to become a "princess" -- a spoiled one at that. In fact, he takes every necessary precaution he could possibly think of to prevent his three-year-old child from growing up with a privileged mindset and attitude.

From sleeping and waking up on time to tying her own shoelaces, Hanna is learning the ropes of an independent life through Lau's strict parenting style. With the hope that Hanna leads a modest life, Lau refused to send her to an international or exclusive boarding school. Instead, he chose Good Hope School, a regular educational institution in Hong Kong where Hanna will hopefully cultivate good character while enjoying her childhood.

Contrary to most international schools where many celebrities enroll their children, Good Hope School reportedly has an estimated NT$200,000 annual tuition. That's less than half of the average fee in schools for the elite.

He and his Malaysian wife Carol Chu initially considered sending Hanna to a kindergarten in Chu's home country before enrolling their child in a primary school in Singapore. Even with all the preparation, Lau admitted that he cannot afford to be separated from his daughter. Thus, he personally scouted for the perfect kindergarten school in Hong Kong, with an environment and teaching style suitable for his daughter's holistic development.

As much as the 53-year-old father is undeniably affectionate toward his daughter, he is immensely protective of her as well. According to reports, when Hanna was born in 2012, Lau promised his fans that he would properly introduce his daughter when she turned three. Until then, he maintained tight security for his family and went as far as purchasing a hundred million-dollar mansion with bodyguards. The celebrity also took some time off his showbiz commitments to spend more time with his daughter.

True to his promise, Lau took his wife and daughter to the 27th anniversary party for the establishment of his fan club in June. Hanna, sensibly unfamiliar with the crowd and popularity of her father, reportedly clung to him during the whole event. It was during Lau's song number that the pictures of Hanna were officially released to the public.
