Speculations abound regarding Matthew Dellavedova's future with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Currently, the free agent guard is in a stalemate with the Cavs in contract negotiations although no other team is reportedly interested in acquiring the gritty Australian's services, as per SB Nation.

Reportedly, Cleveland general manager David Griffin told reporters during the summer league games in Las Vegas that they wanted to keep the team that reached the Finals last June, including Dellavedova and J.R. Smith, "if it all can be worked out."

The salary cap issue is the biggest hindrance in signing Delly as his asking price of $4 million per year would translate into $18 million, virtually a maximum salary if the management approves it.

CBS Sports indicated that the Cavs already have $41 million in luxury taxes due next season. Adding the former Saint Mary's standout's requested salary would shoot it up to $55 million, a massive $14 million increase.

This is the reason why Cleveland had been thinking hard on how to "work out" this current situation.

Another factor that affects the management's decision is the recent signing of Mo Williams, who is said to be the perfect backup for Kyrie Irving at the point. Despite the 12-year veteran's advanced age, he is still a better player than Delly and Smith.

Williams shoots and orchestrates better than Dellavedova and is an improvement over Smith when it comes to shot selection and defense. The 32-year-old was LeBron's James next-in-command in Cleveland from 2008 to 2011 and his high basketball IQ and ability to perform in the clutch will be priceless for the Eastern Conference champs.

This sadly means that the Cavs no longer need Dellavedova and Smith, yet the management wants to retain them, so they are not in a hurry to offer them anything.

Fansided reported that Delly was planned to be a trade chip during last month's draft, but Cleveland held onto him, proving that they are really looking to keep him although perhaps as the third-string point guard behind Irving and Williams.

The Cavs proposed a one-year, $1 million-plus qualifying offer to the Victoria native, which he could accept so that he could become an unrestricted free agent next summer and test the market.
