Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal is set to play in an exhibition match for the Johnny Mac Tennis Project Benefit Night. The event will take place at the Sportime Stadium in New York City on Aug. 26, 2015.

Nadal alongside American former World No. 1 John McEnroe headline the charity affair, which also features junior players from the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, a statement on the event's official website states. Nadal will join the likes of other sport celebrities such as reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, hockey star Henrik Lunqvist, Jamie Loeb, and Noah Rubin who had already appeared at the event. Actor Edward Norton has also supported McEnroe's great cause. The ticket prices for the tennis occasion begin at $75 and could go as high as $5,000, while VIP table packages range from $10,000 to $50,000.

The Johnny Mac Tennis Project aims to raise funds to provide tennis scholarships and financial assistance to the kids of the New York Metropolitan area. It also endeavors to promote the sport of tennis.

"I want to make tennis a sport that kids want to play, and to open doors for more and more people to play, that's my goal, and I have big dreams," McEnroe stated.

Nadal last played at the 2015 edition of the Wimbledon Championships where he suffered a shocking second round exit. The two-time Wimbledon champion was upset by 102nd-ranked Dustin Brown of Germany 7-5 3-6 6-4 6-4. Brown also defeated Nadal in Halle, Germany at the 2014 Gerry Weber Open.

The Spaniard's recent loss at SW19 was the fourth consecutive time that he had been ousted in the early rounds of the said tournament via Wimbledon.com. Nadal lost to unseeded Lukas Rosol in a thrilling five-setter match in 2012 6-7 6-4 6-4 2-6 6-4. The following year, the Mallorca-native yet suffered another awful upset in the first round to Steve Darcis 7-6 7-6 6-4. It was the first time that Nadal had been eliminated in the first round of a grand slam tournament. In 2014, Nadal said goodbye in the fourth round when he lost to then 19-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios, who was making his Wimbledon debut, 7-6 5-7 7-6 6-3.

Nadal has a 34-12 win-loss record this season as seen on his stats at ATPWorldTour.com. He won two titles at the Argentina Open and Mercedes Cup.
