Another Chinese government official has been meted the penalty of expulsion from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removal from public office, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

A meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC decided on Monday that Ling Jihua be expelled from the party and be removed from public office.

Ling was former vice chair of the Chinese People's Consultative Conference National Committee.

It was also decided during the meeting that the suspected criminal case of Ling be transferred to judicial organs for proper handling and disposal, Xinhua reported.

Ling has been placed under investigation since early this year for alleged serious discipline violations that were not specified, according to the Central Inspection for Discipline Inspection, China's top anti-grath watchdog.

Ling, 58, used to be favored for a seat on the Communist Party's Politburo at the 18th National Conference in 2012 but he was suddenly demoted from his position.

Critics said Ling was demoted because of his alleged attempt to cover up the deadly crash that involved his only son.

The news about the crash was censored until an official investigation was announced on 22 December 2014.

Reports said Ling's son was taking part in a sex game when the accident occurred. One of the women inside the car was totally naked.

Other media reports claimed that Ling tried to cover up the accident to save his political career. He allegedly refused to admit that it was his son who died in the accident.

A Hong Kong newspaper also reported that while both of the women passengers survived the crash that killed Ling's son, one of the women later died due to mysterious circumstances.

The CPC was set to officially announce its decision to expel Ling from the party and take him out from government service.
