Astronomers have concluded that a planet like object called WISE JO304-2705 was as hot as a star in its younger days.

WISE JO304-2705 is a member of the Y dwarf class, which is the coolest stellar temperature class yet to be defined.

WISE is named after the telescope that discovered WISE JO304-2705. WISE stands for the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer.

The current temperature of WISE JO304-2705 is about 100 to 150 Celsius. which is between the temperature of the Earth and Venus

Researchers believe the reason the object underwent an extensive evolutionary cooling is because it's sub-stellar.

They explained that its interior never became hot enough for a hydrogen fusion to occur. Without a stable energy source maintaining a stable temperature, cooling of the object was inevitable.

Marius Gromadzi, one of the researchers, said the ground-based measurement of the planet was challenging even when looking through the largest telescopes.

He explained that he and his colleagues were ecstatic to find out how cool the object was and how peculiar it was. Researchers defined the object as peculiar because of the unusual feature in its emitted light spectrum.

David Pinfield from the University of Hertfordshire said the measurement of planet like object suggests this Y dwarf has the composition and age characteristic of one of the Galaxy's older members.

He said this means its temperature evolution could have been extreme. Despite starting out at thousands of degrees, this object is now barely hot enough to boil a cup of tea.

Pinfield believes that with three more years of observation of this object, astronomers will be able to search the sky for more Y dwarfs.
