(Photo : Larry W. Smith/Getty Images) PARK CITY, KS - FEBUARY 26: Police tape hangs across the street in front of the house that Dennis Rader lives in February 26, 2005 in Park City, Kansas. Rader is the suspect whom police have arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the 10 deaths now tied to the serial killer known as BTK.

Josh Greenberg, the co-founder of music-streaming service Grooveshark, died at the age of 28. His body was found lying on top of his bed at his Gainesville, Florida, home on Sunday, July 20, according to The Gainesville Sun.

According to the website, Josh Greenberg's body was discovered by his girlfriend, Abby Mayer, around 7:00 p.m. According to her, he appeared to be asleep. Mayer said she last spoke to the 28-year-old around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and that she had returned from a weekend getaway.

After seeing Josh Greenberg's dead body, Mayer said she immediately contacted the police, who later said he died from no apparent cause. The Gainesville police added that no foul play or suicide is suspected as being the cause of death.

Josh's mother, Lori Greenberg, who lives in St. Petersburg, supported the police statement and said that her son had been in good health, adding that he had never been sick a day in his life, to which the girlfriend agreed.

The police told Lori that they found no injuries or drugs on Josh Greenberg's dead body that could pinpoint foul play or suicide.

On Monday morning, the medical examiner performed an autopsy on Josh Greenberg's dead body in order to determine potential problems with his heart and brain. A toxicology report, which Lori and Abby hopes could shed light as to the cause of death, is expected in two to three months.

"They are as baffled as I am," Lori told the Gainesville Sun. Josh Greenberg became popular after he co-founded Grooveshark with Sam Tarantino in 2006 while still freshmen at the University of Florida. At 19, Greenberg went on to become the start-up's chief technology officer.

Things took a bad turn in April while the company was at its peak. With approximately 40 million users monthly and 145 employees during the time, Grooveshark had to shut down after $17 billion infringement lawsuits with Universal, Sony, and Warner Music were filed. According to the copyright charges, the company had operated without licensing its music.

Part of the settlement requires Grooveshark's parent company, Escape Media Group, to pay $75 million to the labels, according to Variety.

"Despite [the] best of intentions, we made very serious mistakes. We failed to secure licenses from rights holders for the vast amount of music on the service," Grooveshark said in a statement in closing the site.

"That was wrong. We apologise. Without reservation," added the statement.

Josh's mother said that despite the company's downfall, he appeared excited of future endeavor and that her son was not depressed.

"He was excited about potential new things that he was going to start," she said. Aside from Grooveshark, Greenberg helped to launch a scheduling app called MaidSuite for cleaning companies.

He has also helped launch Gainesville Dev Academy, which teaches computer programming. Greenberg also helped aspiring entrepreneurs with the Summer with the Sharks internship program, with classes held at Grooveshark University. He is also a partner in the Founders Pad business incubator and became a founding member of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce's Gainesville Technology Council.

"A true technology pioneer and visionary, Josh was co-founder of Grooveshark.com, which brought unprecedented tech opportunities to our region," according to a statement from interim president and CEO Susan Davenport and chamber board Chairman John Carlson after Josh Greenberg's dead body was found.

"His contributions, which helped to lay our region's innovative technology foundation, will not be forgotten," the statement added.

Josh is survived by his mother, younger brother Jacob, and grandparents, Jerry and Sandy Greenberg.
