Eureka Alert has learned this month about a scientific study on dad bod, and how parenthood makes men gain weight significantly. Scientists from the Northwestern University of the USA did a research on males from 12 to 32 years old. One of the most noticeable figures on those who became very focused on being dads became 2.6 percent heavier than those who claimed to have slacked off from their responsibilities as fathers.

The Telegraph also has reported about the dad bod study conducted by the Nothwestern University, stating that fathers who focused on their parenting found themselves eating more food from their children's plates, adding up to the food they already gobbled up.

The typical 6-foot tall father who lives with his family was found to have an average of 4.4 pounds weight gain. Meanwhile, the 6-foot tall father who does not live with his child had an average weight gain of 3.3 pounds. That weight gain is a rise of almost three percent in the BMI or body mass index.

According to ABC News, other significant factors that might have contributed to the weight gain of men are age, education, income, daily activities, race, marriage status, stress level and screen time. Apparently, being married often leads to a weight gain for men. Unmarried men, however, were found out to have maintained or lost some of their weight. This was gathered by ABC from The American Journal of Men's Health this month.

Lisa Cimperman, one of the clinical dietitians at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, stated that for men, raising a family means that they become more stressed and they try to find comfort by eating more  Also, losing time for physical activities happen when men have families. Their focus is mainly on providing for their homes and their activities have shifted towards spending it with their children and spouses.
