The drama is of the comedy genre and the story revolves around characters that are facing the difficulties of purchasing a flat due to the continuous inflation in Hong Kong's real estate prices.

The theme of 'Flat Slaves' is supposed be a bridge between the 2000 TVB drama 'Ups and Downs'  and the 2012 drama 'L'Escargot'. The drama is produced by Hong Kong director Law Chun Ngok which features actor Vincent Wong and actresses Selena Li and Eliza Sam.

Hong Kong actor Vincent Wong plays the role of a handsome cook who is popular among women. The character he would be portraying would later be splitting up with his girlfriend because of her materialistic traits.

Vincent Wong said in an interview that he couldn't relate to his character's girlfriend at all as he had never met a woman who is quite like said character. The actor claimed to be poor and that he and his wife need to work together for their family in order to buy a bigger flat.

The actor revealed that he is currently looking for a 1,000 square feet apartment in Hong Kong and claimed that he has been saving money for the down payment of the new property, and that hopefully, he could do it in five years time.

On the other hand, Eliza Sam portrays a woman who has just returned to Hong Kong after being overseas. The actress claims to have immediately identified with her character's background being based in Canada herself.

Other cast includes Selena Li who also expressed her goal to save more money so she can move to a bigger home. She will also be joined by Evergreen Mak, Kiki Sheung and Toby Chan in the new drama.
