Eric Hites described himself as "the fat guy".  His extreme obesity cost him a lot - he lost his wife and job.  Currently, Eric is at 560 lbs, too large for his body frame. For him to be capable of reclaiming his life, and his beloved wife, this 40 year old guy decided to ride all across the USA in his bike.

CBS News reported that Hites began his journey in Falmouth, Massachusetts last June. Hites also created a website that was called "Fat Guy Across America." He wanted to share how he, as a 563 lbs man, makes his attempt to ride all across America in two wheels and sheer guts.

The Danville, Indiana resident Hites said in an interview with The Inquisitr that his separation last year led to his decision to embark on this great journey in two wheels. His poor health and weight that just kept on increasing made him have a more difficult mood. It has put a huge strain on his marriage. He would also feel depressed every so often.

While Hites still wanted to stay with his wife, he fully understood that there was a great need for him to prove how serious he was in changing his life. He wants to show to his wife how deeply committed he is into getting healthy.

Then one fine day, he heard the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", by Proclaimers. He then thought of how valuable his wife is to him.  Getting in shape is the only way for him to win her back.

Unfortunate events caused a slow down on Hites' journey. He is now stuck in Tiverton, Rhode Island, because one of his bike's tire rims bent due to his weight. According to ABC News, he is currently camping out, still waiting to acquire a better bicycle that will be capable of handling his massive weight.

Hites vowed that nothing will stop him from his journey. So even if there is nobody who will step in as a sponsor for him, her will keep on cycling until he completes his journey. His journey paid off. Hites has lost 60 lbs from his first two weeks of hitting the road with his bicycle.

Also, Hites' relationship with his wife has somewhat improved. They are now communicating again. He said that prior his journey, she thought that he was all talk. So what Hites did was to go to his physician and cardiologist to get approval for the biking journey he planned for himself. He then worked on building his stamina.

Hites wants to reach out a message of hope to more people on how they can improve their lives.
