ESPN fired radio host Colin Cowherd for insulting The Dominican Republic and its baseball players, saying that the host's comments are not reflective of the organization's values.

Cowherd commented that now way can baseball be complex when one third of thew MLB players come from the Dominican Republic, which is not known for world-class academic abilities, according to Yahoo Sports.

There were also talks that Cowherd was leaving ESPN to join Fox Sports 1.

Cowherd has apologized for his poor choice of words saying his statement is not reflective of who he is and wasn't meant to offend anyone.

Major League Baseball and its players' union issued statements Friday calling Cowherd's comments ''offensive.''

Cowhered was commenting on Dan Jennings getting the job as the manager of the Miami Marlins despite his lack of experience, NBC Sports reported.

He said it was not an issue as the sport is not "too complex", and as proof, a lot of Dominicans play it.

Cowhered described a lot of Dominican kids as coming from rough backgrounds that deprive them of academic opportunities kids from other countries can avail of.
He added that baseball is like any sport and its based mostly on instincts.

Realizing he made a serious error, Cowherd tried to soften the impact of his comments against Dominicans by insisting that all baseball players are dumb--with only four percent of them earning college degrees.

Meanwhile, Dominican All-Star outfielder Jose Bautista who plays for the Toronto Blue Jays said that  Cowherd 's attempt to clarify his previous comment was not acceptable.

He emphasized that he's proud to be a Dominican and honored to be representing his country in Major League Baseball, according to another report by Yahoo Sports.

Bautista also emphasized that there is a big deifference between "educational hurdles" and ignorance or stupidity, which was implied by Cowherd.

Bautista said that he is trying to alleviate the situation with The Bautista Family Education Fund that helps raise awareness and helps athletes get easier access to higher education.

He noted that it's important that Dominican athletes become successful not only in baseball but also  off the field.

He added that the MLBPA and MLB should be applauded for trying to improve access to education for all MLB players.
