The quest for other life forms outside our planet might intensify in the near future. This is because NASA has made recent interesting discoveries on a new planet that looks very similar to Earth. Natalie Batalha, one of NASA's scientist, has just recently revealed to an interview with the Voice of America that their galactic researches shows that there are billions of planets that closely resemble the Earth.

Batalha's description of their research was startling. She states that there are billions of planets that resemble the earth in the galaxy. Almost all of those earth-like planets have the same size as our very own planet.  Yellow stars similar to our sun are where these planets orbit on too.

According to the Huffington Post, the Kepler mission has another wonderful discovery, another star and a planet that is quite similar to our sun and earth. At present, this discovery is the most similar, the researchers have called this as "Earth's closest cousin."

The latest discovery has been labeled as parts of the Kepler-453 system and is estimated to be 1,400 light years away from us, in a constellation known as the Cygnus. Also, the new earth-like planet is said to be a little bigger and a little older.

Meanwhile, The American Bazaar reports of the possibility of having more persistent research to be done on alien life forms in the earth-like planets. The Kepler-452 is highly habitable. There are some areas around some of the stars where water-like liquid forms could exist. There might be real water like the ones we have on earth in the surface of this new earth-like planer, mentions Batalha.

There are also 11 other smaller earth-like planets recently discovered by NASA's Kepler mission. These planets are also in "possible habitable zones." The star in the Kepler-452 zone is a G2-type star. Our sun is also a G2 star. At present, there are 1,030 planets, and more than 3,000 planetary candidates discovered by NASA.

The Kepler was successfully launched by NASA last 2009. This spacecraft was purposely designed to look for more planets in other stars that might have the same conditions like our solar system. Batalha said that there could be 14 billion worlds that are potentially capable of nurturing other life forms.

The search for other beings in outer space continues.
