"Honestly, I'm hoping the Rams come back," the six-time Pro Bowl running back said. "I do go to St. Louis, they're still the Rams and the team I played for, but a lot of guys feel the same way. They'd like to have them back here in town. We need a team now, and I think the perfect fit would be the Los Angeles Rams."

There had been speculations in the past few months that the Rams would go back to Los Angeles after the Inglewood City Council reached a partnership with team owner Stan Kroenke to build a professional American football stadium in the city that is reportedly worth $2 billion. The stadium, which said to feature an 80,000-seat capacity in a 60-acre area, is reportedly going to be built on the long vacant Hollywood Park.

Fansided indicated that Dickerson might ultimately "get his wish" because of the impending construction of the football field.

Since January, a lot of reports were claiming that the NFL is close to announcing the Rams' homecoming to Hollywood in 2016, but all accounts were proven false as the league kept itself mum about the issue.

The call for an NFL team's return to America's second-largest sports market is said to be "at an all-time high", as indicated by the league's official website, from the time when the Rams and the Oakland Raiders bolted out of the city in 1995.

Aside from the Rams and Raiders, the San Diego Chargers are rumored to be one of the teams vying to return to Los Angeles next season.

"If the Rams come, they have a great owner in Stan Kroenke, and it's a different organization than when I played," said Dickerson. "I just think it would be great. I don't think you'll find one person who will say L.A. shouldn't have a team. If they do, they don't like football. I think we do need a team here."
