Macklemore On Drug Relapse - In a new interview for Complex's August/September issue, Seattle rapper Macklemore, real name Ben Haggerty, revealed that he went on a drug relapse in 2014.

Following Macklemore and partner Ryan Lewis' success of their 2013 LP "The Heist," Macklemore said he went back to taking pills and smoking weed.

"I was burnt out. I was super-stressed. We weren't sleeping - doing a show every day, zigzagging all over the country. In terms of the media, I was getting put into a box that I never saw for myself. The pressure and the fame - everything," said Macklemore in the interview on his drug relapse.

"All the clichés, man - like not being able to walk around, having no privacy, and from this TV appearance to this TV appearance, and the criticism, and the lack of connection, and the lack of [12-step] meetings - all of that put into one pie was just... I just wanted to escape," he added.

Lewis said he also noticed his partner's behaviour changing, especially at times when development on their new album is on a halt.

But while falling back into old patterns, Macklemore on drug relapse didn't last for long. He was immediately brought back to the right path by some big news, which has also been crucial to a new album set to arrive later this year.

Macklemore on drug relapse ended however when his fiancé Tricia Davis found out she was pregnant. The rapper once again embraced sobriety, and seemingly for good. He said that he has returned to attending his 12-step meetings, adding that being sober has led to new music, according to Perez Hilton.

"And, as it always works, the minute that I start actively seeking recovery - not just sobriety, but recovery - music is there," Macklemore said. "It always has been. Songs write themselves. My work ethic turns off-to-on in a second and I get happy again. I get grateful again."

"I've been trying to grow up this year. Since I heard that Tricia was pregnant, I was like, 'I need to grow up right now,'" he added.

The rapper announced that he got clean at 25 years old following rehab. He also relapsed in 2011, reported People.

It has now been seven months since the Macklemore on drug relapse episode. He said he is now focused on "self-care" doing activities such as "yoga, journaling, and attending meetings."

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' new album is already three-quarters done. Lewis said he has drawn inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Queen, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles, according to Rolling Stone.
