Taking a moderate and considerable quantity of coffee consistently has good effects on the brain, but when the quantity is increased it lands in trouble, said the researchers according to a research conducted in 1,445 people. The subjects that participated in Italian Longitudinal Study on Aging recruited from 5,632 individuals were aged between 65 and 84. The researchers observed that participants that had consumed one cup of coffee every in a steady phase were in a good mental shape than those that had irregular coffee habits, according to Forbes.

It was found that individuals without cognitive problems and that consistently had one cup of coffee every day when gradually increased their coffee intake had two times higher risk of MCI. But when inconsistent coffee takers took less than a couple of coffee every had only one and a half time higher risk of MCI when compared to constant coffee drinkers that limited their quantity to not less or more one cup daily, according to The Financial Express.

"These findings from the Italian Longitudinal Study on Ageing suggested that cognitively normal older individuals who never or rarely consumed coffee and those who increased their coffee consumption habits had a higher risk of developing MCI," said one of the researchers Francesco Panza from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy, reported The New Indian Express.

It was also found in the study that people that habitually consumed moderate quantity of coffee every day say one to two cups, are at a decreased risk of MCI than those that habitually never or rarely consumed coffee. No great association was found between people that took more coffee every day consistently and incidence of MCI when compared with non-coffee drinkers.

"Moderate and regular coffee consumption may have ... against MCI, confirming previous studies on the long-term protective effects of coffee, tea, or caffeine consumption and plasma levels of caffeine against cognitive decline and dementia," said the researcher.
