The Los Angeles Lakers are still seeking for a player to occupy the last spot in their roster and the team is reportedly interested in former Portland Trailblazers small forward Dorell Wright.

Reports recently went out that general manager Mitch Kupchak was looking to add another center to beef up their frontline or a veteran point guard to provide guidance to his duo of spitfire floor generals D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson.

However, speculations arose that the Lakers also have a need for a "three-and-D" wingman with "defensive versatility and outside shooting", according to Bleacher Report. Kupchak can get both with the 29-year-old Wright, who is still available in free agency as of this time.

Wright, who is on his 12th year in the NBA this coming season, averaged 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in just 12.6 minutes per game off the bench in Portland last season. His best season was in 2010-2011 playing for the Golden State Warriors where he averaged 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in over 38 minutes a night, all career highs.

This proves that if given enough playing time, the former South Kent School standout could really deliver.

Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 205 pounds, he is the perfect backup for superstar Kobe Bryant at small forward, who is reportedly shifting positions to give way to their young backcourt duo, and could also be a stretch four at times.

Rant Sports indicated that the small forward spot is the position that the Lakers are lacking right now. Aside from Bryant, who is a natural shooting guard, the only other player on the current roster that can play the three would be this year's 34th pick Anthony Brown.

While Nick Young could also provide some minutes in the wing, he is also a natural two guard. The Lakers are in clear need of a real small forward and Wright might be the answer to their requirement.

Lakers Nation reported that the Lakers still has a $2.8 million exception available to give that one last summer acquisition, which is more than the minimum contract. It is slightly lower than the $3.1 million Wright earned during his last year in Portland, but a measly $300k would not stop him from going back to his hometown Los Angeles.

There were also rumors that Kupchak was targeting former Wizards big man Kevin Seraphin for the exception, but there are no official reports of any signing as of yet.
