Microsoft has issued a warning against a group that is circulating fake updates of Windows 10, inviting people via email and luring them to click. As soon as users install the fake system, all data on the computer is locked and the system demands money to reveal this data. Until users don't pay, their data is as good as lost.

According to Economic Times, a group of hackers is using the recent Windows 10 launch to dupe customers by sending emails. These emails invite users to download the latest version of Windows 10 and as soon as the users click, it uploads a virus into the system which locks all personal information. The only way a user can get back his or her information is when they agree to pay the money the system demands.

Microsoft has issued a warning against accepting such mails, saying that it is not sending any such communication to any of its users. In fact, Microsoft has said that it is providing customers with an update notification on the computer screen directly, without sending any such email.

It has been revealed that the email contains a program known as ransomware, which quickly locks all data on being given access to the computer. The data is simply encrypted barring all user access.

Meanwhile, researchers at CISCO systems have said that the mails are designed to look very much like the Microsoft mails; however, if users will notice carefully, they are sure to come across signs of warning. For instance, a lot of the words in the mails are randomly placed and that too with incorrect spellings in many places.

Another report on Gizmodo says that users are falling prey to such fake mails simply because they are in a hurry to update to the new operating system. Apparently, the fake mail also comes with a disclaimer and an antivirus seal at the end to appear as legitimate as possible. On their part, users have to be alert in order to avoid falling prey to the scam.
