It seems Jackie Chan is singing a different tune in regard to his relationship with his son Jaycee Chan after he observed the father-son relationship of actors Will Smith and Jaden Smith. The martial arts superstar now wants to work with his son, with whom he had a shaky relationship due to the latter's drug-related issue.

In an interview with the Associated Press (AP), the older Chan admitted that his decision was inspired by the bond that he has seen between his "Karate Kid" co-star Jaden and father Will. Seeing the Smiths helping and supporting each other, especially when it comes to work, motivated Jackie to set aside his stern Chinese approach to fatherhood and embrace the possibilities of pushing his son to grow alongside him.

"I was too Chinese, traditional -- you, son, go away, I don't want to help you, you have to help yourself. . . I say why am I so stubborn? I have to help my son," Jackie told AP.

The 32-year-old Jaycee was detained for six months in 2014 for allowing the use of marijuana at his apartment in Beijing. Arrested with him was Taiwanese actor Ko Kai, who was released only after 14 days of administrative detention. In February 2015, Jaycee was released and he apologized profusely for his mistakes.

Jackie said he is scouting a movie project that will suit his son and considering an album to be produced by Jaycee. The veteran Hollywood star added that, perhaps, singing a duet with the younger Chan would not be bad. For the father who had been away most of the time when his son was younger, that song would be his way to ask for forgiveness.

Today, Jackie is as proud as he can be for his reformed son, who has been busying himself with reading books and writing songs since prison time. He was so impressed with Jaycee's newfound way of living that Jackie even considered jail time for himself.

"I think sometimes I should set up the jail holiday, force some rich people, even myself, to go to jail. . . These days all the people need to do this because they're so busy," AP quoted the older Chan.
