Two-year pro Tyrann Mathieu got the scare of his life when he accidentally pushed running back Kerwynn Williams into the legs of their star quarterback Carson Palmer during the Arizona Cardinals first fully padded training camp session on Monday, as reported by ESPN.

The two-time Pro Bowler had just came back from a devastating ACL injury which the signal caller suffered during Week 10 last season in a game versus the St. Louis Rams that ended his season.

The session was the 35-year-old's first fully-padded 11-on-11 scrimmage since his recovery, and he was instantly welcomed by a near-accident that took the collective breath of everyone in the University of Phoenix Stadium Monday night as it unfolded.

No other soul on the field was more terrified than 23-year-old Mathieu, though.

"My heart was in my behind," Mathieu said, via the Cardinals' official website. "It was tough, man. We are feeling pretty good as a team right now so I certainly didn't want to be responsible for No. 3 (Palmer)."

The former LSU standout was able to nervously joke afterward given that his main man was not hurt after his bungling play.

Head coach Bruce Arians called for a blitz play on the defense and instead of going full speed at it, the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team selection slowed down then burst again, which made Williams think that Mathieu is not bumping him and so he went out of control to directly hit Palmer's recently-healed knee.

Arians said that these kinds of mistakes in practice are the usual causes of training camp injuries, but he is not taking it against the young fella.

"Half the guys who blitz stop, some don't," Arians said. "That's one of the things we have to correct. Come full speed or don't come full speed, but you don't stop and then hit a guy who has already stopped."

Mathieu disclosed that he thought Arians would get furious at him, but shockingly, the coach did not even yell and just warned the guys on the field to be more careful.

"Which was weird because usually he gets pretty pissed off at those types of things," Mathieu said grinning.

It is clear, however, that Mathieu understands the importance of their resident playmaker and their job to make sure that he will not get hurt, as per the NFL's official website. The Cardinals are a contender with Palmer around. Last year, the team went 9-1 before the 2006 Pro-Bowl MVP was injured.
