Google rolled out the latest security patches to several Nexus devices to find Stagefright exploit. The company also updated the Android Messenger app to prevent automatic retrieval of MMS video files to prevent hackers.

Google Nexus devices are now receiving a new software which fixes the Stagefright vulnerability that haunted device manufacturers. After the release of the latest factory images, Google rolled out an update for LG Nexus 4, LG Nexus 5, ASUS Nexus 7, HTC Nexus 9 and Samsung Nexus 10. Unfortunately, older Nexus device such as Galaxy Nexus and ASUS Nexus 7 first generation are eligible to receive the patch fix but it is expected since these models have long reached the end of life cycle.

In addition to the new software update, Google is also improving the Android Messenger app by removing its automatic ability to download video files from MMS messages. Hackers using Stagefright exploit does not require user interaction and can directly gain total control of the device. Users will now have to click on the MMS video just to view it on the messenger.

Several brand manufacturers have also made immediate actions to stop Stagefright vulnerability. LG Electronics decided to release monthly security updates to network carriers to provide safe user experience among users.

"LG will be providing security updates on a monthly basis which carriers will then be able to make available to customers immediately. We believe these important steps to demonstrate to LG customers that security is our highest priority," an email response from the company quoted by Android Authority.

Motorola has lined up several models of up to two years old to receive the patch fix while new ones such as Moto X Style, Moto X Play and Moto G third generation will be updated upon launch. Devices to be updated with the fix include Moto X first and second generation, Moto X Pro, Moto Maxx or Turbo, Moto G first and second generation, Moto G with 4G LTE first and second generation, Moto E first and second generation, Moto E with 4G LTE second generation, Droid Turbo and Droid Ultra, Mini and Maxx.

Several Samsung Galaxy devices have received the official patch fix after network carriers AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the United States started the rollout. These devices are Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Sony already got the necessary patches from Google and will send the updates via retail partners in the next few weeks starting with Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z4 models.
