Former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Tony McDaniel was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a one-year, $2.5 million deal eight days after the Super Bowl XLVIII champion was waived by the Seahawks on August 2.

The 30-year-old NFL journeyman, who also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins throughout his nine-year career, is considered as one of the best defensive line interior players in the league.

McDaniel started 29 regular season games for Seattle during his two-year tenure for the squad and recorded 39 tackles and two sacks.

It was a win-win situation for both parties as the Bucs have found the perfect answer to their defensive line depth issue while McDaniel is set to earn the salary that he would have received from the Seahawks if they had not released him, as per the league's official website.

Bleacher Report noted that the release of two-time NFC champ was triggered by the two mega-signings of quarterback Russell Wilson (four-year, $87.6 million) and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner (four-year, $43 million). Seattle reportedly wanted to "cut costs somewhere" and McDaniel was the first player that was thought as dispensable.

The Bucs had lost one of their defensive tackles, Akeem Spence, in late July because of a back injury that needed surgery. With 23-year-old Spence potentially out of the whole season, the arrival of McDaniel, who not only will provide defensive depth but also veteran leadership on the field, was much welcomed by head coach Lovie Smith.

Tampa Bay had also acquired 28-year-old DT Henry Melton last March after his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, declined to exercise the team option for the third and final year of his contract.

With McDaniel, Melton, and the team's resident defender Gerald McCoy, the Bucs defensive line now looks a lot more intimidating than it did last year.

Meanwhile, just a couple of days after his signing, McDaniel made a huge claim that former Seattle teammate, defensive end Michael Bennett, had expressed his desire to join him at Tampa Bay, as per NBC Sports Pro Football Talk.

Bennett was with the Bucs from 2009 to 2012 before moving to Seattle in 2013. McDaniel asserted that Bennett told him Tampa Bay is "a great place" and that he "wishes to come back down there."
