USA Basketball has reserved a spot for LeBron James for 2016 Olympics, even if they have to wait for the superstar until after the upcoming NBA season for his commitment.

James didn't have to participate in any of the practices soon.

This was revealed by USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo in an interview with ESPN.

However, James has to satisfy Colangelo's requirements for 2016 Olympic squad members that they make an appearance during USA Basketball's three-day minicamp on Univeristy of Nevada at Las Vegas.

James is among three players, along with Carmelo Anthony and David Robinson, to have played for the United States in three different Olympics.

James would set a record four times if he gets to play for the US team in Rio de Janeiro next year.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Kevin Durant, like many other NBA stars, has to earn his spot on the roster.

In fact, Durant is sweating it out at the USA Basketball minicamp just four months after his third foot surgery in a year, according to ESPN.

Durant took it positively and was actually glad to be playing hoops again with the game's best players.

He felt it was a great opportunity to work out with fellow NBA stars and said that "iron sharpens iron" .

The Thunder star said he needs to play against his NBA peers to ascertain if he got his game back, but he felt sure he "can go 100 percent".

So far Durant hasn't played 5-on-5 yet but is able to go full-speed in what was described as a measured approach.

On Tuesday, the players at the minicamp mostly did layup lines, shooting drills and 5-on-0 offensive sets.

The camp is actually more about bonding than training.
