Constantine the series may have ceased to exist but the character is still very much alive in the DC TV universe.

The "Constantine" series was not able to stand on its own but the there are numerous possibilities for him in the shared universe. The CW has two hit series set to renew their seasons in October: "Arrow" on its fourth season and "The Flash" on its second.

The first step was taken by "Arrow" as they confirmed that Matt Ryan will reprise his (formerly) titular role in Episode 5 of Season 4 appropriately entitled "Haunted."

"We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of Arrow. Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired," in a statement by Marc Guggenheim, executive producer. "The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and the CW's DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series."

This could mean a change in direction for the series. They have already opened their doors to super-powered beings like The Flash and now they will have supernatural elements with Constantine on board.

Guggenheim told TV Insider that "Arrow" is indeed evolving: "Each year on the show, we have added and expanded the mythology with different elements. In Season 2 we introduced the idea of superpowers, last year brought in the League of Assassins, and for Season 4, we always had a plan to introduce magic and mysticism." he says.

He took note of Ra's Al Ghul's resurrection in the Lazarus Pit. "We were already swimming in those waters and that's why Constantine is this great organic little development."

Which brings us to Constantine's role in the series. Guggenheim toes the line from spoiling the series but he hints that it has something to do with Sara Lance's resurrection.  Lance's character (portrayed by Caity Lotz) is the first example of someone being really "dead" being resurrected in the Lazarus Pit (as opposed to Thea, who was only on the brink).

Apparently, there are supernatural consequences when you pull someone out from such a state of inexistence and Constantine will help them to settle that.

Speaking of Sara Lance, she is slated to turn into the White Canary and join the upcoming superhero/supervillain team-up series "Legends of Tomorrow. As Io9 hinted, nothing would prevent Constantine from appearing in "The Flash" or even joining "Legends of Tomorrow."
