Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden was finally out of the team's Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and is reportedly in good physical shape and ready to compete in training camp, as per the league's official website.

The 27-year-old McFadden, who is one of the top two candidates for the Cowboys' starting running back position, had been hampered by a recurring hamstring injury the whole summer which limited his participation to his new team's practices and training sessions this offseason.

McFadden spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders, but he was waived early this year due to injuries and the improvement of second-year running back Latavius Murray. Dallas signed him on March 13 to a two-year, $5.8 million deal and began the ongoing rehab of his hamstring.

The former Arkansas standout's number one competition for the Cowboy's starting spot was former backup Joseph Randle, who himself is also currently injured with a strained oblique muscle.

Last weekend, the Dallas Morning News reported that McFadden was allowed to join the team's morning walk-through practice but was still prohibited by head coach Jason Garrett to participate in the team's fully-padded evening exercises.

The North Little Rock native came completely dressed and ready for the evening affairs but Garrett was reportedly extra cautious about fielding his prized running back in, which wound up with McFadden just performing individual drills through the night.

"It just felt great being out there on the field again, just to be able to run around and let my teammates know I'm coming back to work hard," McFadden told reporters as soon as the evening session was done. "They're easing me back into it, but for me I just feel like I want to jump back into it with a full head of steam."

That night, McFadden shared a separate field with Dallas third-stringer and also injured running back Lance Dunbar for individual training. Meanwhile, Randle, who is still not one hundred percent recovered from his own setback, joined the team drills that evening.

Cowboys' boss Jerry Jones said that he approves of Garrett's vigilance about bringing McFadden slowly to the team, according to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. The 72-year-old owner added that what is most important for him is that McFadden is getting healthier and in better shape to compete in the upcoming season.
