A "supermoon," a phenomenon where a full moon is closest to Earth, will enchant the evening skies above the UK and Europe this Sunday, Aug. 10.

Stargazers will see the moon 14 percent to 30 percent brighter than usual, said astronomers.

A supermoon is scientifically known as a "perigee moon." which means the moon is at its closest point to Earth.

Britain is a lucky country because this supermoon will be the second of three supermoons visible in its skies that will appear this summer.

According to newspaper, The Independent, this kind of supermoon will occur again in 2034. Supermoons, however, are rampant in Britain since they occur every 13 months.

This supermoon is special because this time the moon is closer to Earth than it has been for the past 20 years.

Astronomers said that around 6:10 pm for 26 minutes, the moon will reach its full perigee stage at 221,765 miles from Earth.

There will also be a Perseid meteor shower during which 100 meteors will flame through the sky. This is a yearly event in the UK.

Astronomers warn the public to expect spring times and to expect higher tides for people living in the coasts.

Scots in northern Scotland will have the best view of the supermoon.

Astronomers said it will be in northern Scotland that the moon will appear lowest on Britain's horizon. This advantage will give stargazers a better view of the once in a life time supermoon phenomena.

Supermoons are expected to occur again in Britain this September 9, 2014; on September 28, 2015;  November 14, 2016 and January 2, 2018.
