'Another World' Actor Charles Keating Dead at 72

Renowned soap actor, television personality, stage actor and audio book narrator, Charles Keating died on Saturday. He was 72.

The star had been battling cancer before he passed away.

He is survived by his wife Mary and their two sons.

Actress Alice Coppola, who played Lorna on "Another World," took to Twitter to express her sadness over her old friend's death. "Charles Keating has passed. I am so very sad. Along w/ @LindaDano he was my very first acting teacher. The actress I am is because of them," she wrote.

Mark Pinter, another one of Keating's co-stars on "Another World", tweeted, "RIP - Charles Keating - "He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again."

Before becoming a television star, the British actor was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Keating, a classically trained star won Outstanding Lead Actor for playing the devious Carl Hutchins on "Another World" in 1996. Keating starred in "Another World" from 1991-1999.

He had short-live roles on the soap classics, "All My Children" and "As the World Turns", as well as guest roles in "Xena" and "Sex and the City".

Believably effective in villainous roles, Keating played the evil psychiatrist Dr. Damon Lazarre on "All My Children" and the horrid Niles Mason on "As the World Turns".

Keating also had supporting roles in the movie "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "Awakenings" and "The Bodyguard".

The esteemed actor was also a Broadway regular, with roles in theater productions such as "Loot", "Agamemnon", "A Man of No Importance" and "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui". Keating received a Tony Nomination his work in "Loot".

Aside from Keating, other veteran personalities who have passed away recently include James Garner, Elaine Stritch, Ruby Dee, Ann B. Davis and Casey Kasem.
