Green Bay Packers' starting wide receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a torn ACL during their Week 2 preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that also saw three other starters succumb to injuries, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Packers' offensive guard T.J. Lang and the Steelers' center Maurkice Pouncey and defensive end Stephon Tuitt all went down with injuries as well during the Sunday afternoon match that Green Bay superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers described as "meaningless".

"It's difficult to lose a guy like that in a meaningless game," the NFL's highest-paid player said. "I think a lot of players around the league probably do (dislike preseason games). At least cut it down, maybe, to a couple."

"I'm not going to get into the 'What if' game. I don't know what his status will be. I'm just hoping for the best," he added.

Nelson went down without contact in the first quarter of the said game after catching a routine 8-yard pass from Rodgers. It appeared that his knee gave in after pivoting in an attempt to complete a longer run.

ESPN reported that an MRI exam confirmed the ACL tear on Nelson's right knee, with other ligaments surrounding it undamaged.

However, the injury would still require reconstructive surgery and would sideline the former Kansas State standout for the duration of the coming season. Green Bay will miss their no. 1 wideout for an entire year, which would make the team's Super Bowl hopes a lot dimmer this season.

Nelson is entering the first of his new four-year, $39 million deal with the Packers that would keep him with the team until the 2018 season.

The 30-year-old Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion had a banner year last season with 1,519 yards in 98 receptions and 13 touchdowns and was Rodgers primary scoring partner that makes the Packers' offense one of the most efficient and most feared in the entire league.

The seven-year veteran had not been injury-prone throughout his career, playing all 16 NFL regular season games five times and has not skipped a single game since the 2012 season, according to Bleacher Report's Tyler Conway.

Conway also indicated that Nelson was ranked as the second-best wide receiver in the NFL next only to the Steelers' Antonio Brown.

Packers' backup wideout Randall Cobb is reportedly going to replace Nelson in the starting lineup.
