The Cleveland Cavaliers revealed they signed Mo Williams and Richard Jefferson in order to cut LeBron James and Kyrie Irving's playing time next season and give them more rest.

According to Yahoo Sports, it has been the Cavs'  goal to reduce  LeBron James' minutes like they did in 2014-15, which whittled down the superstar's minutes to the lowest of his career at 36.1. He played 69 games last season, his fewest in an 82-game season.

The Cavs also want to make Irving's regular season workload light as he is coming off surgery for a fractured knee cap.

The 30-year-old James, who is on his 12th season, logged in at 42.2 minutes per game and 844 total minutes in the 2015 playoffs.

It is noteworthy that the San Antonio Spurs Tim Duncan's playing time to 31.3 minutes per game in his 13th regular season and down further to just 28.4 minutes per game in his 14th year.

The 23-year-old Irving is entering his fifth NBA season and played a career-high 36.4 minutes per game last season and ended up battling ankle and knee injuries in the postseason.

In Williams and Jefferson, the Cavs got a pair who are truly eager to win the title, although aging.

Williams, a point guard like Irving, said he was glad to be back for another tour of duty with the Cavs that puts him in a situation where he can finally win a championship, reports the Cleveland.com.

He noted that in the NBA, one cannot be assured of getting a crack at the championship.

Now 32, Williams would want to spread a sense of urgency among younger teammates to let them know that the time to win is now and to never take playing on a talented team for granted.

He recalled that in his first stint with the Cavs as a young player, he had that youthful outlook and thought success would last forever.

The 35-year-old Jefferson gives the Cavaliers a veteran presence at forward who can give LeBron James a breather, averaging 16.8 minutes in 74 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season

Jefferson was signed by the Cavs to a one-year deal  last month after backing out of his initial commitment to join the Dallas Mavericks, according to USA Today.

He told Mavericks owner Mark Cuban that he changed his mind because the Cavs will give him a better opportunity to win the title.

Cuban said he undertood Jefferson's desire to play for a strong title contender.
