Who would have thought that any show could beat America's favorite singing competition "American Idol"? But little did they know that there would be such a show with star studded judges. Yup, that is right, it was "The Voice" that stole the limelight from American Idol along with many of its fans. It was first aired in 2011 and blew away the viewers with its unique mix.

The blind auditions were one of the things that set the show apart. They made it all about the contestant's voice. Nothing else mattered. The jury consisted of the music diva Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 's lead vocalist Adam Levine, the country singer Blake Shelton, and CeeLo Green. In later seasons CeeLo and Christina were replaced by Shakira and Usher, Later on, Usher and Shakira were replaced by Pharrell William and Gwen Stefani. They are also the coaches for the upcoming season along with Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

Missy Elliot will also be joining season 9 and guest advisors will include Selena Gomez for Gwen Stefani, Brad Paisley for Blake Shelton, John Fogerty for team Adam Levine, and Rihanna (who will be taking over Taylor Swift who was competition wide advisor for the contestants).

The rules of the show are also very different from what idol had. Contestants are selected through blind auditions, then they have a face off in the knock out rounds where two contestants compete amongst each other to win a final spot. After that they become part of team Blake, Adam, CeeLo or Christina. The judges are their mentors and they guide them throughout the competition. The show also has guest judges.

The Emmy award winning show has successfully finished its eighth series and the next series is scheduled to premiere on Monday 21 Sept. on NBC. So get ready for some great music and new voices this Sept.!
