Nintendo has recently filed for a patent, apparently for the Nintendo NX model and its specs have been detailed on the patent application.

According to VG247, the gaming console has opted for the hard disc drive instead of an optical drive when it comes to storing data or the program itself. The design came as a surprise as none of it has been mentioned prior to its revelation other than the idea that there will be some sort of changes in its profile specs. Satoru Iwata of Nintendo claims that they wanted to surprise their fans with the latest in gaming consoles and to eventually update the current look of Nintendo consoles.

Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn has been assigned by Nintendo to produce the first production of the consoles. Rumors circulated that the Nintendo NX is set to start production by October and is scheduled to be officially launched on July 2016.

According to IGN, included in the patent is the ability of a server to hand out the program stored in the hard disc to the gaming console. The methods used will also need a high speed internet in order to make fast and efficient retrieval of data as well as distribution to specific gaming consoles.

The move to eliminate the disc drive has been assumed by fans as the ultimate sign that forthcoming games will all be digitally downloaded. While the disc drive is seen to have been eliminated, there is a card slot can be used to read Micro SD cards from other devices.

The Nintendo NX could possibly be the successor of the current Wii U, but with its release date seen as far as next year, it may be too early to assume. As early as March 2016, Nintendo will be making the final cut on pre orders to know the number of units needed for its July 2016 launch.

In its first year, Nintendo has a target market of 20 million units, and will aim to sell more as it progresses. Nintendo is known to regularly patent their products just like Sony and Microsoft.
