NFL News & Rumors: Coach Blames Carson Palmer For Cardinals' Preseason Offensive Line Woes

It was evident in Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians' words that he still has a lot of concerns regarding the teams' offensive line even as the 2015 NFL regular season draws near. And he may have publicly blamed his starting quarterback, Carson Palmer, for it.

"We've got to do a better job of getting the ball out of our hands sometimes," the 62-year-old coach told reporters after their come-from-behind 30-23 preseason road victory against the Oakland Raiders, via the NFL's website. "I thought we held it a little bit longer today. Our backs could have helped a couple times to protect (Palmer)."

Palmer finished the game going 8-for-22 in his passes for 103 yards, three sacks, two interceptions and a rating of 14.0, as reported by ESPN. Very un-Palmer-like, so to speak.

Perhaps Arians is already expecting his superstar quarterback and the Cards' offense to be locked and loaded at this time of the year, ready for their opening match versus the New Orleans Saints at home on September 13. But gauging by how the starters played at the O.co Coliseum on Sunday, there are still a lot of preparations needed to be done.

The team was down 3-15 at the half as Arizona's starting lineup struggled to put points on the board. Worse, it seemed like the offense was troubled by only one man: Raiders outside linebacker Khalil Mack.

Mack sacked Palmer twice and made life difficult for the defensive tackles and guards with his relentless rushes, particularly against Arizona left tackle Jared Veldheer.

"It was just one guy on one guy most of the time," said Arians. "Carson's got to get the ball out of his hands. He can't be looking for three and four (options) against that rush."

In fairness, it was not all Palmer's fault as the team's entire offensive line did not give him enough room to ease the pressure, read the defense better, and quickly release the football.

Mack was virtually "unblockable" that day, as per CBS Sports' Sean Wagner-McGough. He repeatedly blew past Veldheer and the other offensive tackles the whole game, forcing Palmer to make incompletions almost every play.

Wagner-McGough noted that Mack may be headed for a 15-sack season if he sustains this type of play throughout the year.
