Brazilian Marcelo Huertas has agreed to a one-year deal to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and provide them an experienced pick-and-roll point guard.

Huertas, 32, one of the  most accomplished playmakers in the Euroleague, would complement the development of No. 2 overall pick D'Angelo Russell, reports Yahoo Sports.

According to Kirk Henderson of SB Nation, Huertas is the kind of player who can run an offense fully, is a much better player than Raymond Felton and a better pure point guard than J.J. Barea.

Huertas is also a skilled passer and routinely makes flashy yet highly accurate passes. He can also be relied upon to make three-pointers from well beyond the arc.

He would be joining a backcourt that includes star Kobe Bryant, Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams.

The Brazilian noted that one of his strengths is playing in the pick-and-roll, hwere he can find open teammates and connect from the mid-range game off the dribble.

Huertas said that while there are unbelievable starting point guards in the NBA, there are not many who can come off the bench, run the team, score the ball, and be a leader for young players. That is something he believes he can contribute to the Lakers.

Averaging 7.4 points and nearly five assists for Barcelona this season, Huertas helped lead the Spanish club to three consecutive Euroleague Final Four appearances in six seasons.

He is also a career 87 percent free-throw shooter.

Huertas also averaged 11 points and five assists for Brazil in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

He has appeared in numerous Olympic Games, World Championships and FIBA America tournaments as point guard for Brazil.
