Several Palestinian supporters have protested in west Belfast by removing what they claim were Israeli products from the display of a grocery store.

At around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, the pro-Palestine protesters have gathered at a Westwood Center supermarket at Kennedy Way.

The demonstrators were shouting "Free Palestine" and then started removing Israeli-linked products from the store's shelves.

The protesters then placed the products in several pushcarts.

In a statement they posted on Facebook, the group urged others to join them in their crusade for Palestine.

"We call on others to join the boycott, stand with us over the coming weeks as we take the campaign to those who ignore the plight of the Palestinian people," the group said.

In Sainsbury in West Belfast, dozens of other pro-Palestine demonstrators also emptied several supermarket shelves last week.

The products removed included Pringles and those manufactured by the Coca-Cola Company, among others.

Many of the protesters carried flags and banners, which proclaimed "Free Palestine."

Civilian Seosamh O Bradaigh posted a video clip that showed the demonstrators as they removed products from a supermarket.

The video has since been received more than a thousand views from people all over the world.

Meanwhile, SuperValu, a chain of supermarkets, stated that all of its stores already removed from display the carrots they imported from Israel.

The supermarket chain claimed that it is not "boycotting" Israel-imported products, despite sending out an email ordering all of its 232 chains to suspend the sales of the Chantenay carrot from Israel.

However, SuperValu denied it was banning Israeli products from its stores.

"SuperValu is not involved in a boycott of Israeli produce and ultimately consumers will make their own purchasing decisions," the company said in a statement gathered by Belfast.
