On Tuesday, a Madrid hospital spokeswoman announced that the Spanish missionary priest, Miguel Parajes, died after he was diagnosed with the Ebola virus.

However, his mission was cut short after discovering that he had been infected with the Ebola virus. Prior to his diagnosis, Parajes had been assisting with the treatment of Liberians who had been suffering from the same condition.

According to a report released by the UN health agency, a recorded 1,013 have died after being diagnosed with the Ebola virus in West Africa, where Parajes had been stationed. As of now, there have been 1,848 patients who were either suspected of having or were officially diagnosed with the Ebola virus.

After discovering that he had tested positive for the Ebola virus, Parajes was immediately evacuated from Liberia and returned to his home country for further treatment. Upon his arrival, Parajes was rushed to the Carlos III Hospital in Madrid-where he has been staying ever since.

This past Monday, an announcement had been made by Spain's Health Ministry, stating that the organization had successfully accessed ZMapp-the new American-based drug that would be used to treat Parajes in his condition. Despite having a written order for Parajes to be treated with ZMapp, the hospital did not confirm whether or not Parajes received his new treatment prior to his death.

While ZMapp had been ordered to treat Parajes, the drug has not yet been tested in humansl. Other Ebola virus patients who had received ZMapp included two other Americans who had been diagnosed.

Though Parajes had been working in Liberia, the Ebola virus has quickly spread throughout several African regions, in places like Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Other surrounding areas have been preparing for another outbreak of the virus.

To prevent any potential risks of the Ebola virus spreading to Spain, Parajes will be cremated on Wednesday.
