In Mechanicsville, Virginia, doctors are baffled at the miraculous two-month recovery of Grayson Kirby-a car accident victim who they believed would have less than a five percent chance of living.

The doctors who had been treating Kirby were noticeably shocked and could not offer any possible medical explanations over his fast recovery. However, they plan to study Kirby's recovery further.

What started out as a fun night for Kirby, 31, ended up being the night that nearly claimed his life. After attending the motorsports Mid-Atlantic Power Festival in Ruckersville, Kirby had gotten into the passenger seat of a car without any inkling of what was about to happen.

During his ride back from the festival, the vehicle had flipped over, and Kirby was thrown out of the car from the passenger seat. His fall caused his lungs, ribs, and broke almost every bone in his body.

Upon his arrival to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, doctors had placed Kirby in the intensive care unit, where he remained unconscious. The only thing keeping Kirby alive was the machines he had been attached to.

Doctors estimated that Kirby would only have a five percent chance of living. Even if he did survive and managed to regain consciousness, Kirby would have had suffered severe brain trauma and would not be the same.

His mother, Karen Kirby, originally believed that her son was dead on arrival from the accident. However, finding out that her son had the smallest chance at living made her not give up hope.

Holding onto their hope, Kirby's family created several fundraising outlets to help bring in money to pay for Kirby's medical treatment and their travel expenses to Charlottesville. A Facebook page was created, explaining Kirby's accident, his medical situation, and the need for funds.

The page quickly grew and had more than 5,200 members. And while some of these readers knew Kirby well, several of them had never even met him.

More funds than the Kirby family could ever imagine began to arrive.

Members of the Facebook page created T-shirts, wristbands, stickers, and even events to raise awareness of Kirby's situation and to help support his family in the meantime.

The T-shirts were designed by David Booth of Inkt Va, and they featured the slogan "GWKstrong" with a picture of Kirby's truck. They were sold for $15 each, and more than 1,000 shirts had been sold in just one week.

In fact, the T-shirts had been worn to a "Red Out" event held in Kirby's honor. In addition to lemonade stands, cupcake sales, and haircutting fundraisers, a raffle and silent auction had also been planned in Kirby's honor.

Over $11,000 had been raised.

Finally, after a tremendous amount of community support, Kirby regained consciousness on June 17th-only days after Father's Day. Upon opening his eyes for the first time, Kirby had immediately recognized his father and mouthed the words "I love you".

After regaining consciousness, Kirby was transferred from the University of Virginia Medical Center and began to receive treatment at the Sheltering Arms Hospital in his native county, Hanover.

Now that he is awake and aware of his community support, Kirby is hopeful about making a full recovery so that he can return his community's love.
