New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is reportedly ready to be back on the field with his team as he is scheduled to take a physical on Monday, as per NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.

This is the first time that Giants officials and coaches would be able to see Pierre-Paul since his freak 4th of July fireworks accident that left him with an incomplete set of fingers in his right hand.

To repair the damage, the 26-year-old's right index finger was amputated and his right thumb is still undergoing treatment for multiple fractures while the rest of the digits were treated for severe burns. Reports went out late in July that his recovery period may take longer than expected, especially his fractured thumb.

The medical is an important step to complete the return of the former South Florida standout in the NFL. It is also a key factor in determining "financial decisions" especially with regards to the two-time Pro Bowler's contract.

JPP is set to receive a franchise tag worth $14.8 million this coming season, although because of his non-football related injury, it could be reduced significantly. Aside from the medical, he and his representatives are also set to meet the owners and management of the Giants to discuss his expected reconstructed deal.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was said to be positive that Pierre-Paul can get back to his typical football shape "pretty quickly" and could possibly even play in the team's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, via Bleacher Report.

As of the moment, JPP's hand is still heavily bandaged for protection and will reportedly "play in a cast" during his first few weeks back in the lineup.

The NFL's official website said that when Pierre-Paul signs the franchise tender, he will then be "under contract and subject to being placed on the non-football injury list". This means that he will not be paid for the initial six weeks, which is said to be one of the reasons why the Super Bowl XLVI champion has stalled his signing.

The report went on to say that JPP obliged to take the Giants' physical because he already considers himself healthy enough to pass it, something that he reportedly made sure before agreeing to meet with his team's officials.
