Carmelo Anthony Admits Knicks Needs ‘Much Work’ Before Getting NBA Title

Carmelo Anthony doesn't think the New York Knicks will win an NBA title anytime soon.

In an interview with Puerto Rico's Primera Hora newspaper last week, the All Star power forward admitted that winning a championship takes time and that the team has "much work to do," but it's something that he said he looks forward to being a part of.

"I do not expect to win a championship this year," said Anthony, who recently debuted a slimmer physique on his Instagram account.

Knicks brass started an overhaul after the team ended the last season with a disappointing 37-45 finish. The first person out of the team was coach Mike Woodson, and from there, the team started rebuilding the roster in the offseason with the goal of making huge improvements before the summer of 2015 comes.

Under the president Phil Jackson, the team shipped out center Tyson Chandler and guard Raymond Felton, who recently pleaded guilty on a weapons charge. In exchange, the Knicks got veteran point guard Jose Calderon, center Samuel Dalembert and 2013 first round pick Shane Larkin.

The Knicks also had Wayne Ellington and Jeremy Tyler shipped out in exchange for swingmen Travis Outlaw and Quincy Acy.

Anthony, who re-signed for five years with the team in a contract worth $124 million, is enthused about the changes, but he said the moves they will be making right now in preparation for the next year will be critical.

For some experts, there might already be enough changes now for the Knicks to vie for a spot in the 2014-15 Eastern playoffs.

An opposing GM, who gave an early reassessment of the East, said under Jackson's tutelage, the Knicks showed "structure and organization" during the summer league in Las Vegas.
