Renee Zellweger reprises her titular role and Colin Firth is also coming back as Mark Darcy. Director Sharon Maguire who directed the first movie will also return to helm the project.

Dempsey will most likely play a rival lover the same way Hugh Grant (Daniel Cleaver) became a distraction to Zellweger in the second "Bridget Jones" movie.

Zellweger's latest project is "The Whole Truth" co-starring Keanu Reeves and Gabriel Basso. She plays the role of Basso's mother. His son was accused of murdering her husband.

Although Universal hasn't released any clues on the plot just yet the story will be based on the columns "Bridget Jones" author Helen Fielding has written. In the real "Bridget Jones" timeline continued in Fielding's latest novel "Mad About the Boy," Bridget has two kids and Mark already passed away.

The 49-year-old actor will perfectly fit the movie as Bridget is also in her 40's around this time and she is a publishing executive. Dempsey's last big screen appearance was in 2011 in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

"Bridget Jones's Diary" earned $281 million worldwide while its sequel "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" grossed $261 million globally. With McDreamy in the movie, it's expected that he will pull "Grey's Anatomy" fans to watch the film. His character was killed in the show in a shocking twist that took viewers by surprise.

The third movie will be produced by Universal Pictures, Miramax, and StudioCanal.
