Climate change has already threatened the food security and agriculture, and prices hike in Australia.

According to SBS, the Climate Council's report said that the agricultural sector has suffered and will suffer more in the future as Australia's climate continues to change constantly.

Lower rainfall and rising temperatures have already widely affected the crop yields in southern Australia areas, and these yields will continue to drop.

The intensity and greater frequency of extreme weather events such as bushfires, droughts and cyclones can lead to decreased productivity across the agricultural sector, which includes the dairy and livestock industries.

Already 50 percent of Australia's agriculture sector is irrigated, and the available supply of rainfall is set to gradually decrease.

Nevertheless, Australian farmers become more efficient in using their water.

The Climate Council's key findings in their report are as follows:

  1. * The weather patterns are more extreme and unpredictable because of the climate change, which seriously give consequences to agricultural production.
  2. * There are more frequent and intense heat waves as well as extreme weather events that affect the Australian food prices.
  3. * The seasonal availability and quality of many foods in the country are affected by climate change.
  4. * Australia is tremendously vulnerable to food supply disruptions because of the extreme weather events.
  5. * The country's international competitiveness in a number of agricultural markets is going to be challenged by the warming climate as well as the changing weather patterns.
  6. * Adaptation to food production challenges are going to be increasingly difficult and expensive if climate change is constant.

Meanwhile, other parts of the world also suffer from this problem with the agricultural sector, as reported by The Guardian.

From Europe to the Americas to Asia, there is no population that will remain covered from the big changes in food production in which the rest of the century will bring.

Climate change impacts will fall out of proportion as well on people who are living in tropical regions -- the most vulnerable population groups.
