The Cincinnati Masters is the only Masters Series event that top seed Novak Djokovic has not won. On Thursday, fate did not smile on Djokovic yet again.

Djokovic lost a hard-fought third round match to Spain's Tommy Robredo, 6(6)-7(8) 5-7, marking the second Masters Series event in a row that the Serb lost

Both players would not give up on their serves in the first set as they ended up on a tie-break. The 32-year-old Robredo saw an opportunity to go ahead by two points at 6-all and took it to win the set.

The 16th-seed Robredo was given an opportunity to break the seven-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic at 5 apiece and eventually served out for the match.

The 27-year-old Djokovic has placed four times in the past six years, losing three times to five-time W&S Open champion Roger Federer and once to Andy Murray.

Djokovic missed out again on an opportunity to become the first and only tennis player in history to complete a Career Golden Masters, winning all nine Masters Series events at least once in their career.

"It's unfortunate, but it's more than obvious I'm not playing even close to what I'm supposed to play," said Djokovic.

Robredo will now face sixth seed David Ferrer at the quarter-finals. Ferrer won against Mikhail Youzhny of Russia who early in the first round upset recent Rogers Cup winner Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

British No. 1 Andy Murray pulled off a three-set victory over American John Isner 6(3)-7(7) 6-4 7(7)-6(2).

Even though the 2013 finalist Isner converted 21 aces, the 27-year-old Murray saved two match points in the third set and eventually won the match in two and a half hours.

Murray is set to meet 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in the quarters after winning against Gael Monfils of France in another three-set match 6-4 4-6 6-3.
