Offering video streaming service for free comes with a lot of consequences. One example is that it will clog T-Mobile's network due to high demands and excessive traffic that the company might not be able to handle the bandwidth.

T-Mobile's Binge On program has some pretty interesting fine lines. First, it will only stream videos in 480p quality, which the company claims is DVD quality or maybe even better. The video quality is far lower than the widely available HD 1080p.

T-Mobile said that it has a proprietary technology that optimizes contents from video content providers. Analysts call this technology "adaptive bitrate optimization coding technology," according to Computer World. This is a software that automatically compresses the amount of data being sent to devices, in return not using too much bandwidth and not clogging the network.

For now, T-Mobile Binge On program supports 24 services. This includes major content providers like Hulu, Netflix and HBO. T-Mobile is also working with YouTube in order to add its massive library of videos to the program.

Many analysts say that the 480p should be good enough for most people, so long that it is free. On the other hand, T-Mobile said that with advances in video compression and the emergence of new video codecs, the company might support higher video resolutions in the future, according to Techno Buffalo.
