Luke Skywalker's Backstory Could be the Focus of 'Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens'

With the premiere date for "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" quickly approaching, fans of the franchise are clamoring for news on what happened to the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker.

Screen Rant reported that the reason why Luke hasn't been in any of the promotional media at all is that the movie is going to revolve around the main protagonists, Rey and Finn, who are going on a journey to find the allusive Jedi.

This rumor does hold merit as there are several clues in the film's trailers which supports this theory.

The first and most clear piece of evidence is that J.J Abrams confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the light saber Finn is seen using during the trailers is indeed the one that Luke lost during his fight with Darth Vader in Cloud City.

Abrams tells EW that fans have been asking the wrong question all this time, and that they shouldn't be focusing on where Luke is but instead on who Luke is by this time.

The director and co-writer of "Force Awakens" says that by this time in the franchise's timeline it's been nearly 40 years after the events of Endor, and that the acts of heroism done during that battle have slowly fallen to myth and legend.

This is confirmed when Han states in the trailer that "It is all true, the dark side, the Jedi, everything." This could mean that both Rey and Finn might have grown up to believe that everything they have heard about Luke and his deeds are considered to be myths or legends.

Many have long believed that Luke has gone into seclusion, taking a similar path like his mentors Obi-Wan and Yoda, and it is up to Rey and Finn to find the Jedi Master.

If Luke is in hiding or if it ends up that there is some completely different reason for his disappearance, fans will have to wait for the release date on Dec. 18, 2015 to find out when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" finally debuts in theaters.
