Tech giant Microsoft has announced that it is rolling out a major upgrade for its OneNote mobile app. The update will bring in new features and will be rolled out for both the iOS and Android version of the app.

One of the new features added is the ability to attach a file into notes and embed audio files as well. Microsoft claims that new update will help OneNote level the competition with some of its rival apps like Evernote and Apple Notes.

According to CIO, the new OneNote updates are geared towards educators and students. Some of the improvements are also aimed at  professionals and business users.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, "Whether you're preserving a lecture for posterity or practicing your accent, a recording is a natural way to capture it. Students can easily practice pronunciations for a foreign language class or capture their latest guitar solo in music class. Teachers can give quick audio feedback to students - directly in their Class Notebook."

Audio recording capabilities will be made available for the iPad, iPhone and Web versions of OneNote.

Another major update for OneNote is a feature that allow users to add an attachment to notes. This will be a handy feature especially for students who can now easily attach additional materials to their notes such as an image, a spreadsheet or PowerPoint presentations.

For Android devices, the new OneNote update adds the Android badge. According to The Verge, this badge can be placed anywhere on the screen and makes it easier for users to copy and paste notes from one application to another.

Microsoft said that the updates will start rolling out within the next two weeks.
