A 71-year-old retired businessman and his 70-year-old wife, Elizabeth, were found dead at their country house in the UK on Monday morning, with reports indicating that the man had killed his dementia-stricken wife 'out of love,' before he shot himself with a shotgun.

Family members called authorities at around 10:20 a.m. after they found the couple unconscious, each with a single gunshot wound, at their Bosbury, Herefordshire home on Monday.

Neighbors said retired company director John Knott had been fighting to impede the construction of a gypsy camp near their 300-year-old country house, while caring for his wife who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

"John spent every single day trying to think of ways to stop this happening, and it caused him a lot of stress," their next door neighbor stated.

Their home in Bosbury is worth £500,000. However, one of their neighbors had been told that £100,000 will be stripped off the value of their property if the gypsies were to reside near them.

Since knowing this, John Knott, former managing director of Ashford Construction, had spent his days and nights plotting against gypsy settlement near their beloved home.

Their neighbors believe that the stress from the settlement issue, and seeing his wife suffering, could have been too much for him.

"It got worse and worse, and he was getting more and more agitated. With all that was going on at home with Anne, it all got too much for him," one neighbor said.

On Monday, authorities have confirmed that both residents of the home had been found dead and that they are still under probe as to the cause of death of both elderly occupants.
