With the reigning Premier League champions Chelsea FC currently slumping in the English top flight, rumors are out that Jose Mourinho is set to sell Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic, and Oscar this January. He is allegedly attempting to work out a direct swap deal with La Liga's Atletico Madrid involving Costa and Antoine Griezmann.

Metro wrote about Mourinho's four-player sale plan as the Blues attempt to salvage a lost season that has now become a fight to fend avoid relegation.

Presently, Chelsea is sitting at the 16th spot on the league table, five spot from from the last place and only three points away from possible relegation to the Football League Championship. The team has managed a 3-7-2 win-loss-draw record after 12 weeks of competitions. They are currently on a three-game losing streak and have won only once in their last six games.

The four players mentioned above are all in Mourinho's starting lineup, yet the 52-year-old manager may be contemplating on releasing them to overhaul what seems to be an incongruity when it comes to chemistry and talent.

Meanwhile, a report from the Daily Express said that the Portuguese coach is all set to agree on a direct swap transaction with Atletico Madrid, exchanging 27-year-old Spanish striker Costa for 24-year-old French forward Griezmann.

Costa had a superb year last season, scoring 20 goals in 26 appearances for the Stamford Bridge team on their way to claiming the English title. However, it has all been downhill this season for the player, who has managed to score just two goals in seven games.

Griezmann is a known goal scorer and playmaker, netting 22 times in 37 games last season for Atletico. This year, he has five goals and two assists in 11 matches.

The article said that an additional £24 million compensation for the Madrid squad would seal the deal to acquire Griezmann.
