The landslide struck the village on Friday at around 10:50 p.m. Torrents of mud and rocks buried nearly 30 houses and claimed the lives of 33 people. 300 families were relocated from the site.

"I saw the house in front of me was ablaze before it was buried by mud. I heard people screaming for help from inside. But I really couldn't get over to them," narrated a survivor, a 26-year-old man identified only by his surname Li, according to a report by the The Strait Times.

A rescue operation was organized immediately by the Zhejiang governor. Over 3,000 rescuers, seven sniffer dogs, 60 large machines and more than 50 aid vehicles were sent to the site. The local government also dispatched 52 teams to investigate the landslide area for any further disasters.

A new location for new buildings has been decided by the city government, as stated in a same report by China Daily.

50 professional psychologists were also sent to provide medical help to family members of the victims.

An inspection of neighboring mountain areas has been conducted by staff of the Ministry of Land and Resources from Beijing.

The local bureau said that the province has been experiencing heavy rains for two days. It was still raining when the landslide occurred.

The city has received a total of 4.23 million yuan ($663,000) in public donations for the victims by Tuesday evening.
