Actor Philip Ng will be playing Bruce Lee in the new Hollywood biopic, "Birth of the Dragon".

Ng's casting for the new Groundswell Productions movie was announced after he wrapped up shooting for the TVB drama "A Fist Within Four Walls". The actor reportedly prepared for the casting auditions of the Bruce Lee film for more than a year.

The film, which began production early 2014, is presently filming in Vancouver. "The Adjustment Bureau" director George Nolfi takes the helm as director, while Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen J. Rivele take on the writing responsibilities. Cory Yuen is the one in charge of choreographing the fights in the film.

US-based Entertainment Weekly noted that the biopic will focus on the events leading to the duel between Bruce Lee and Northern Shaolin master Wong Jack-man in Oakland, California. The actual fight and the events leading to it occurred during the mid-1960s.

Wong had greatly opposed the fact that Lee was teaching martial arts to Caucasians.

The said fight was controversial because it altered the late Lee's Kung Fu philosophy, and it was held in private and unrecorded. The winner of the match was never announced and remains unknown.

Other actors that are to star in the feature include Xia Yu who will play Wong Jack-man, and "Into the Woods" star Billy Magnussen who will play Steve McKee, a martial arts student in the middle of the two well-respected masters.

The "Birth of the Dragon" will be narrated from the perspective of McKee.
