After eight months of speculations about the reason for his departure from the band in March, former One Direction member Zayne Malik has finally spoke out about why he left the group in the middle of their world tour. The singer stated it was a chance for him to create "#realmusic" and uncover the "real me."

It is unclear why Malik has decided to break his silence and explain to fans why he left the band now. In an interview with The Fader, the 22-year singer said "If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f***, so they could use that version."

Malik left behind his four other band mates, namely, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, who recently announced that they are going on a temporary hiatus. He admitted that even if he tried to participate in the creative process, his suggestions were always rejected.

"There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band," he said. "I wasn't 100 percent behind the music. It wasn't me. We were told to be happy about something that we weren't happy about,"

He further revealed that as the band made its way to stardom, they recorded more albums that he wasn't comfortable with. "It was music that was already given to us, and we were told this is what is going to sell to these people," he revealed.

"There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn't convinced with what we were selling," Malik said.

It can be recalled that before Malik left the band unceremonially, major issues had surfaced. These issues included rumors tjhat he had cheated on his girlfriend Perry Edwards after a photo was circulated acron oss social media and tabloids where he was seen in a Thailand nightclub holding hands with a woman named Lauren Richardson. A British tabloid also reported an interview with a British model who claimed to have slept with the singer that same night. Then there was the issues of the "drug bond" demanded by the Philippine government after a leaked video showed him smoking weed while in the country. 

Within a week, the band posted Zayn's official resignation statement. Asked if the cheating rumors made him do it? "It wasn't because of that that I left - that was just a contributing factor to everything. I'd already made my mind up before that," he answered.
