Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2 generally performed below expectations. The film failed to top the $274.9 million worldwide start of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. Even in China, where the Hunger Games is enjoys a strong fan base, Mockingjay 2 also underperformed, earning $16.4 million versus  Mockingjay 1's $21.9 million box.

However, compared to other films, the Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2 is the big winner. It has landed on the No. 1 spot both in the domestic and international markets, grossing $146 million overseas. The Bond installment Spectre, meanwhile, continues to perform impressively, gathering $65.7 million over the weekend, increasing its international sales to $677.8 million. However, James Bond has also experienced a steep decline in China with sales dwindling by 77% to $12.8 million.

In the third spot is the Taiwanese romance Our Times, which earned $12 million followed by the South Korean thriller Inside Men, which took $10.2 million. Rounding the top five was The Transporter Refueled, which added $9.8 million, for a global sales to $58 million.

Interestingly, the finale series of film franchise usually ends up on a high note. While the first two Hunger Games films enjoyed sky-high popularity, the last two have been less successful.

The Hunger Games trilogy, which propelled Jennifer Lawrence to international fame, is hailed as one of the highest-grossing film series of all time, with an accumulated gross of $2 billion. It also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Claflin, Natalie Dormer, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
