Taiwan's representative for this year's Miss Earth in Vienna has reportedly been dropped out of the prestigious competition following her refusal to wear the "Miss Chinese Taipei" sash instead of one with the text "Miss Taiwan ROC" that she was carrying.

22-year-old Ting Wen-yin expressed her sentiments on her official Facebook page revealing that she had been summoned before going to Vienna over China's possible political pressure.

"I told them 30,000 times that Taiwan is Taiwan," Ting posted. "I was born in Taiwan, my sash now says Taiwan, I represent Taiwan, and I'm going to use the name of Taiwan in appearing at this pageant."

"Their response to me was, 'change your sash or just leave'. Today, they did not allow me to stand on stage and photographers were not allowed to take my pictures,"  she added.

Seemingly not too affected by the circumstance, the Taiwanese beauty queen further warned her fans about the deceiving photos they see. She divulged instances where she felt like they were "treated little better than prisoners."

She recalled two instances when they had to pay for their own lunch because the pageant coordinator failed to provide for them. And  "Over the last three nights, we were shuffled from nightclub to nightclub, wearing beautiful clothes to talk and dance with men. I felt like a club hostess," she said.

Contestant from Taiwan have always carried the "Miss Taiwan ROC" name since the pageant began in 2001, according to the Shanghaiist. Instead of taking things negatively, Ting thought of it more as "a blessing in disguise."

Another beauty queen walking against the perilous path of politics is Anastasia Lin, Miss World Canada 2015, who was allegedly denied entry to China because of her human rights advocacy.

Just like Lin, Hunan-born Ting Wen-yin is also an advocate and a Falun Gong follower herself and her father has allegedly also been receiving threats from the Chinese authorities.
