The Joy City recently launched an app called Emotions Cloud to assist couples in expressing their love.

"Using the app, customers can book tickets for the Ferris wheel, enjoy a customized Valentine's set and spread their message to loved ones through the loudspeaker at the top of the wheel," Joy City Mall's deputy-general manager Wei Jianping said.

An insider revealed that compartment lightings can be adjusted to take photos or just enjoy the whimsical moment.

After running a trial on Dec. 19 and a "soft" opening for VIP members, further improvements will be added based on the comments and suggestions from the public. The official launch of the venue is scheduled for Valentine's Day.

The tourist spot is expecting about 5 million vistors annually and several travel establishments have arranged ticket reservation with Joy City.

Shanghai University tourism expert Liu Deyan explained that "Building a landmark to generate tourism revenue is understandable, but it's more preferable to build a scenic spot conforming with local urban culture than a higher skyscraper or Ferris wheel."

Senior product manager for travel Hu Jiaqi also said "every city has its feature, travelers in Las Vegas will prioritize casinos rather than Ferris wheel" - indicating that Chinese tourists do not utilize local Ferris wheel in other countries.
